Pinetop’s Boogie Woogie

Pinetop Perkins is dead at the age of 97. The Grammy-winning legendary bluesman died at his Austin, Texas home. He was born in Belzoni, Mississippi and become a world-renowned pianist. The world of music is sadder now that one of its most beloved musicians  has died.

Perkins’s career took off in the 1920s and he was working with several big names including B.B. King and Sonny Boy Williamson. Sadly, his fans will have to wait to hear whether or not Pinetop’s family will have a large open funeral or a private one.

Pinetop Perkins’s manager, Hugh Southard, released a statement earlier today confirming his death via cardiac arrest. Pinetop made history this past February when he became the oldest person to win a Grammy. He won “for best traditional blues album for “Joined at the Hip: Pinetop Perkins & Willie ‘Big Eyes’ Smith.”
